Walmart Shop by Collections page
Designed a merchandising page to drive awareness and conversion for our private brand patio furniture.
My role
Before I started my career in Product Design, I was doing category management at Walmart. I already had an interest in UX/UI so I volunteered to be the Site Experience Lead for our Patio Furniture & Decor team. One of the projects I led was a Shop by Collections page that highlighted our private brand furniture pieces as collections on walmart.com.
I took ownership of the project from initial research/ideation, wireframing, pitching it to various stakeholders, and eventually working with our site merchandising team to launch the page. I had to communicate and justify the business value of the page multiple times to different teams to get buy-in as well as making changes to fit it into strict UX constraints.
Project highlights
Impact & reflection
During the 4 months it was live on-site in 2019, the page drove revenue participation of $1.4 million and had a 20% increase in conversion (compared to our average browse shelf). With most collection items selling out during the summer peak season, we decided to temporarily sunset the page until items come back in stock the following spring.
This project was my first hands-on experience with UX/UI in a professional setting, even though I wasn’t in a formal design role. I discovered that many of my skills from previous roles, such as effective communication and strategic business thinking, were also essential skills for a Product Designer. This experience made me more determined to eventually switch to a career in Product Design.
